What I think about

As I write this I have clothes in the washing machine, am eating my lunch and am desperately trying to finish an article that I need to hand in by tomorrow all the while trying to decide what on earth I will wear out today.

My ONE pair of jeans that fit are hanging next to me taking way too long to dry.  I am sitting in a pair of black shorts and a vest.  The age old conundrum brewing on my mind;  a cupboard full of clothes and nothing to wear.

This got me thinking. I am warning you its quite controversial.

Is it better to be overdressed or underdressed?

  1. I think it’s better to be overdressed. You can be all insouciant like Victoria Beckham, like oh, I’m just a fashionista, I always look chic and pulled together, who cares if the rest of you are in business casual? Whereas if everyone else is dressed to the nines and you’re in old jeans you feel like a total hick.

  2. I would say underdressed is better, when you’re overdressed you feel awkward, when you’re underdressed you have options…and you’re comfortable!

  3. I error on the side of overdressed everytime. Even when the invite says “dress casual”.. I’ll ‘glam’ it up a bit. I hate to be in a room full of well dressed people looking like I shouldn’t be there. Plus, I think it’s easier to excuse someone overdressed (they didn’t know the dress code) vs underdressed (what were they thinking!?!?!?)

  4. I go for underdressed more and more. It makes me feel superior for looking as though I don’t care ;)

  5. If I must overdress I pretend I’ve just come from somewhere fabulous or very very important.

  6. I’m a casual dresser. Underdressed. I’m a jeans and tee kind of gal!

  7. Overdressed, because then you are the most fabulous in the room.

Underdressed and you risk looking like a schlub.

  8. I’ve been a jeans and t-shirt girl my whole life, but lately I’ve embraced overdressing. There’s something that feels nice about dressing up a little.

  9. Overdressed. Nothing wrong with looking fabulous.

  10. depends on your surroundings. if you are just going out to do some things and have a casual meal than I say underdressing is fine. and I would prefer it. but if there is anything professional or formal about your plans than always always overdress.

  11. overdess.. and pretend, if uncomfortable or asked, that you just came from somewhere extravagant! :) besides, you feel better when you look good! atleast that’s me, and perhaps is true because it happens so infrequently! :)

  12. I just finally got all caught up with your posts and I must say…I love the Dear Diary theme. I’m really looking forward to Fridays now! :) (Well, more so than usual, tee hee). I’d say it’s better to be overdressed. I’d rather look glam compared to everyone else than a bum compared to everyone else!

  13. I think overdressed. But then, I come from the land of casual, so wearing a little dress or skirt or heels with jeans can come across as overdressed…

  14. I feel like I’m either at the bar in gym clothes or a dress and rarely anything in between! I guess I struggle with this one too! I’m either all glam or don’t give a damn.

I don’t think that it matters if you’re overdressed or underdressed. I think that all that matters is that you feel sexy in what ever it is that you’re wearing. As long as you feel comfortable and confident, it makes no difference.

  15. Hmmm, usually I’d go for overdress… However, knowing that city of yours, I realise that overdressing can be a bit of a challenge – everyone is doing it there. So, underdress – it will make you look as if you really don’t care and/or foreign.

  16. overdressed.ennoeitai!!!
although i always manage to be underdressed…
but you know how people in Athens are….
you go out overdressed and everyone looks at you…and the same happens when you go out in jeans and a vest…i guess you shoulndt really care….probably dress how you feel

  17. overdressed is better…. you can always dress down if needed…. but if you show up underdressed, there’s nothing you can do!

  18. Overdressed for sure. It’s better to look GREAT than to look ‘MEH”

  19. Overdressed.. at least you know when they are looking at you, they think wow, unlike if you are underdressed and they look at you with disguist..
