As seen on An American In Athens.
30 years ago… I was not even a thought, not even an intention, not even a possibility.
20 years ago… on my first day of school, I told my mother who was crying to “Go home and cook”
15 years ago… while sitting on a hot, brick pavement I wished that one day I would be a strawberry blond haired detective.
10 years ago… I thought I knew it all. Oh! And boys? They were dumb.
5 years ago… I was falling in love.
2 years ago… I was out of love, out of place and out of printing paper. Oh! And boys? They were dumb.
1 year ago… I was exactly where I am today. My nephew, however went from having absolutely no neck control to walking. Scary.
Yesterday… I raised my voice to a person who did not deserve it. I am not proud.
Today… I ate two entire cupcakes. And did absolutely no writing for NaNoWriMo. I am not proud.
Tomorrow…I am going to do just a little bit better.

I enjoy your blog on an almost daily basis – thank you for sharing aspects of your thoughts and life!
as for your “today” part of this post… I hear you. I haven’t left the house except to walk the dog & have just been catching up on grey’s anatomy.
here’s to tomorrow!
Yum cupcakes! I would love a cupcake right now.
what a great concept for a post! and mmmm…cupcakes. i want. now.
I liked this! I think I may have to borrow it, and you know… find me a cupcake!
this is cool! i loove cupcakes. what kind did you have?
I don’t believe this. On my first day of school, surrounded by sobbing children, I told my mother “Well, what are you waiting for? Can’t you see everyone else’s mummies have left?”
I was the only one out of the 4 children who didn’t shed a single tear.
mmmm….delicious cupcakes. and “go home and cook?”
priceless, hope. priceless.
i think you’re pretty great. 20 years ago, 5 years ago, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. just so you know.
HOPE you have a happy weekend :) xoxo, bb
Alexandra: Seriously! I’m a big fan of tomorrow.
Brookem: They were apple cupcakes with what tasted like lemon-ny butter frosting. And they were pink! And heavenly!
Bollybutton: Haha! Classic.
BB: Aw thanks, hon! You’re too sweet!
This is great! You’ve got a good heart, you know that? And about yesterday…even people with good hearts can reach their limits! Hope you have a nice weekend.
great post Hope!
and mmmm cupcakes!! ;)
Loving this post! Laughed hysterically that you told your mom to go home and cook. Classic!
Ohmygosh I am drooooling over cupcakes. Seriously, every. single. blogger has mentioned cupcakes or included pictures of cupcakes in their posts recently. I think i’m going to have to find me a cupcake. Or two. Or ten.
Do you ever have an off writing day?
Because, seriously, all your posts are golden :).
You deserve cupcakes.
I have to ask the same question Princess Pointful asked, because seriously? Your words just flow, and you’re always, ALWAYS a wonderful read.
Anybody who claims NOT to have wanted to be Nancy Drew is lying.
I loved this post – it is amazing what we see it retrospect….
Wait… boys are dumb?
(I didn’t want to be Nancy Drew at all.)
ROTFLMAO @ “Go home and cook”
I think I still want to be Nancy Drew. Except now that we’re grown up I think the image in my head is a little more Jennifer Garner a la Sydney Bristow in Alias.
Loved this.
When I was little, I was less wanting to be Nancy Drew and more Dicey from Homecoming. Basically, there was this mother who for some reason abandoned her children, and the oldest daughter Dicey lead them all to the only family member she knew with nothing but the clothes on their back and about 20 dollars. It’s a good read.
Also, 2 cupcakes in a row is amateur ;) One day, I believe ate 4 in a row. Afterwards, I had a huge stomachache. But still. I had my pride.
…well, kind of.
Also again, I hope I can have a friend in you when it comes to NaNoWriMo. Maybe this year I’ll actually finish!
